All restaurants in New York MUST post a food allergy awareness notice in a easily visible location to staff and employees (May 20 2023).​

Food service establishments in New York MUST include the following notice: "If you have a food allergy, please notify us. (https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2021/S1123)

Per the FALCPA Act (2021), manufacturers of packaged products MUST clearly identify the presence of the 8 major food allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans) as well as sesame.

​In the EU, manufactured products must be labeled with fourteen allergens (the 8 regulars with additions including gluten, sulphites, celery, molluscs, and mustard). Countries like Canada and Australia follow similar practices.​

​Japan and South Korea mandate allergen labeling similar to the United States with a few differences. For instance, both require the labeling of buckwheat.
